We go on holiday for lots of different reasons, but I imagine mainly for pleasure and relaxation.
A big part of travelling for lots of people is experiencing different cultures and meeting people who live in ways different from your own. This next tip is perhaps sp simple it shouldnt need to be stated, but here goes....

| To preserve the cultures of those countries you visit, think carefully about where you spend your money. Think about where that money is going, and the economic effect that it will have. For example, staying in your international hotel is fine, but before choosing to have dinner there as well consider seeking out a local alternative. The dollar you spend in the hotel ends up making the international chain richer, but adds nothing to the diversity of humanity throughout the world. Take a rickshaw into town for tea at a traditional teahouse before tasting local cuisine in a backstreet resturant keeps a whole chain a people employed and preserves traditional economies which, after all, is why we are visiting in the first place. |
So, share the wealth! Think about buying souveneirs from markets not shops! Your dollars make a difference!
