Lucky me has just spent 10 days in Morocco in North Africa! What a trip, mountains, the Sahara, bugs as big as my head, great food, stunning architecture and the people of Morocco were open and friendly.
Picked up a few travelling tips as well which I hope to share with you over the next few days. This first one is all about tipping, which is simple.
There are lots of differtent cultures who tip, and there are two tips to make the process smoother...
Top Tip:
Know correct tipping amounts before you go! Either ask people who have been to the country before or ask in the reception of a hotel (it dosent even have to be your hotel) what the correct level of tipping should be. Find out what is appropriate for tipping a taxi driver, a waiter and that sort of thing
That will tell you how much is suitable to preserve dignity on both sides! Now..
Top Tip:
Carry small denominations in one pocket so when an occasion to tip occurs you can reach for an appropriate coin or note. You may be priveleged to travel in a country where your currency is far stronger than that of the country within which you are travelling. There can be needless friction created when searching for a tip and producing a sheaf of high denomination notes, one of which would feed a family for a month.
Its all about respect for the people whom you engage with, remember, you are a guest!
