Default How to hear in a crowded room.

Surprisingly your ears are not equal. Your ears are hard wired to the opposite side of your brain, and each side deals with sound differently.

The left side is well equiped for deciphering speech and other rapidly changing signals, while the right side is better adapted in processing tones and music.

Because of how the brain's is organized, the left half of the brain controls the right side of the body, and the left ear is more directly connected to the right side of the brain.

Top Tip:

If you are finding it difficult to hear someone at a party or in a noisy room you should turn your right ear towards them.

Conversly if you are trying to identify a piece of music you should turn your left ear towards the sound.

BTW: This same reasoning is why people who suffer a stroke on the right side of the brain will sometimes be left with speech defects.
