Next-Next-Gen Consoles
So as the battle of the consoles heats up with immenent release of the Nintendo Wii and Sony's Playstation 3 to compete with the Xbox 360 we may as well turn our attention to whats next...
Playstation 4 we hear could be aimed for release in 2011, and we understand it will not use disks at all, with all games being solely online. Or so Phil Harrison, Sony’s president of worldwide studios told Wired magazine: “I’d be amazed if the PlayStation 4 has a physical disc drive,” he said. Absolutely no point as to trying to guess at the name of Nintendo's Next-Next-Gen console, although "Puu" is clearly the bookies favourite at this stage. Of course Microsoft have created themselves a problem, Xbox 2 is of course called XBox 360, in an attempt not to sound "inferior" to the Playstation 3. Its just incredible - I can remember the excitement with which I watched the first ever Gran Turismo intro, I though nothing could beat it!
Quick question though, as these things get more and more real, will that take away some of the excitement? Take Gran Turismo as an example. The early rounds traditionally see you driving Micras and the such to build up your skills. But there is no way you can dress it up, driving a Micra is not exciting. So all that technical study and computing genuis has given me an experience which is pretty flat in real life anyway. I suppose my question is, as simulations get more real will I be forever seeking out sharper thrills, will I be looking for better than Life games?
