Default Saving Water

Water is a precious resource, not only is it difficult to come by in some parts of the world but processing water so that it is clean and drinkable is an ongoing drain on energy resources. Water conservation is an important part of green living, and it will also save you money on your household water bills!

Top Tip:

Don't let water run while shaving or brushing your teeth.

Top Tip:

If you have a shower over a bath, use the plug while you shower, the water collected will soak and relax your feet, and you can use the collected water to water your house plants.

Top Tip:

Placing a household brick in your toilet water systern will save you about a litre of water every flush!

Top Tip:

Check that your home is leak-free, many homes have hidden water leaks. Reading your meter before and after a suitable period will reveal leaks. Make sure all taps and water using devices such as dish washers are off, read your water meter and go out for a few hours, when you return if the meter does not read exactly the same, there is a leak. Call a plumber!!

In the UK the water companies have got a hosepipe ban, and think that next year we will need drought orders. That means stopping water going to your house so you have to collect it from a standpipe at the end of the road.

Scientists reckon that the tip above, turning off the tap while you brush your teeth, would solve that issue in one go!

Massive one here in the UK is..

Top Tip:
Dont use a hosepipe to water the garden, use dishwater or bathwater. Better still, if you can get a waterbutt into which you can siphon off the 'grey' water, you would save literally thousands of litres

Getting a waterbutt is the ultimate - the grey water can feed the garden, wash the car, all those things that use incredible amounts of water.

Not only will you save cash - but your carbon footprint will be smaller as you wont be asking the water company to use as much electricity to pump the water to your home.

Grow leeks. They rock.
