Whenever I think the pounds are creeping up on me I spend a couple of months just going jogging, nothing heavy but regularly getting the blood pumping and the lungs working.

The most difficult bit for me is starting - its just soooooooooo easy to keep knocking it back and when I come home from work the telly goes on, the pizza goes in and I convince myself that I will start tomorrow.

The best little trick I have learnt for getting into it is really simple

Top Tip:

Leave your running kit and shoes by the front door. The moment you step in the door you laugh at yourself, then you put the kit on, and before your brain can convince you otherwise, you are out of the door.

For the first couple of weeks all I do is go for a walk - but the action of kitting up and getting out becomes habit, and its all kicked off by leaving the kit by the door. You simply cant get out of it!

Obvious but so true..

Top Tip:

Find a jogging partner. The main benefit is that the day you let your guard down and succumb to the sofa, is the day your partner knocks on the door and gets you out jogging!

It is so much more inspiring when you have two people working at the same problem, you keep each other going and make it more fun. Its also safer when it starts getting dark!

Grow leeks. They rock.
