I always tell my kids that they can't use the computer or watch television until they have completed all their homework.

They are mad most of the time, but they soon get on with it!!

Thats what my parents used to do! As well as academic activities, it works in other areas too.

I remember they told my brother that he could have a new cricket bat if he scored more than 20 runs in a school game.

He did it eventually, but the main lesson he learned was that regular attendance to after school training improved his game. So it re-inforced the idea that reward comes after hard work and discipline
