Default Additional Security Measures (Firefox users only)

When searching for websites using search engines like Google or MSN it is often difficult to know what to look for in the results. Which sites are likely to be good and which are not so good? Even more importantly are any of these sites going to do me harm? Can I trust them? Well, as luck would have it I have a very good tip for you that helps with this problem.

Top Tip:

McAfee Site Advisor is an excellent Firefox add-on that constantly monitors what websites you are looking at (or potentially going to look at) and cleverly advises on that sites safety.

The program installs a descreet grey bar in the bottom right of your Firefox browser (its currently not available for IE*), as you view a site it refers to McAfee's comprehensive database of sites to look for known issues about that site. If a potential problem is found the bar displays a red warning. Clean sites, those without known problems display in Green. (If no information is know about the site the bar remains grey).

Now for the really clever bit! When you search using Google or MSN McAfee Site Advisor actually checks each site in the search results before you visit! The results of these checks are displayed next to each site, again as Red - Potentially Unsafe, Green - Safe and Grey - Unknown.

Now you have additional security information about a site before you even visit, so you can make better, more informed decisions about which site are safe to visit and those that may not be!

I suggest that you download and install this tool today - I certainly will never browse the internet without it again!

More information form McAfee here.

And they have a promotional video on YouTube here.

* If you're serious about security you'll be using Firefox by now anyway!
